Questioning in Drama
Increasingly, drama teachers are feeling obliged to address questioning in a circle with the class and find that they lose both the drama and time in the process. Concerns about lollipop questioning and its place in the drama classroom have been growing steadily with the anxiety caused and time wasted. There has to be other ways of working productively with questions in the drama classroom.
This session looks at some other possible strategies for dealing with questions and answers while enriching rather than stopping the drama, and encouraging students to be the answer-finders of their own questions.
Amanda Kipling is leader of the PGCE Drama programme at Goldsmiths. She taught for 15 years in secondary education in south east London and worked as a freelance consultant in a number roof universities before working at Goldsmiths.
