Exploring Live Theatre (Members)
A workshop for teachers created by Theatre Centre and London Drama. Special offer fee for London Drama Members Only £5!.
Theatre Centre will conduct a workshop developing ways in which live theatre can be used to deliver and enhance the GCSE and A level Drama specifications and the National Curriculum, particularly Geography, Citizenship and English.
It is a chance for teachers to meet with theatre professionals to discover together new teaching and directing strategies that can be used in the classroom. The workshop will explore the acting techniques used with young audiences, the shared experience of theatre productions and practical activities to support and develop schemes of work.
Teachers will then have the opportunity to consider their learning in relation to a live performance of TC’s The Day The Waters Came by Lisa Evans.
Theatre Centre
TC produces and tours new writing, developing the next generation of writers and artists working for and with young people. The Company succeeds by investing in the development of new ideas and collaborations to create theatre which is pioneering, truthful and culturally significant. TC puts an emphasis on touring high quality productions into schools and theatres which connect with young audiences, inspire their creativity and reflect their diversity. TC’s productions and projects aim to work with teachers and educationalists in providing young people with a space for learning and artistic achievement. The Day The Waters Came
TC last worked with Lisa Evans on her seminal play for young audiences Stamping, Shouting And Singing Home. Her new play for TC is a sister piece, exploring the environmental and social impact of Hurricane Katrina on the communities in New Orleans.

Maya Marsalis takes you by the hand, sometimes the throat, and leads you through her landscape the day Hurricane Katrina came, the levees broke, the world watched and the US Government did nothing. Go with her, as she shows you how her world and that of thousands of black American citizens changed for ever, the day the waters came.”

STEP is a borough-wide partnership linking the theatre community and education and youth sector in the London Borough of Southwark. STEP aims to equalise, extend and deepen the theatre and drama experience of all young people living in Southwark through the development of strategic partnerships between schools, youth and community groups and theatres and performing arts organisations. STEP's objective is to work closely with Southwark schools, youth and community groups and theatres and performing arts organisations to develop creative approaches to learning and provide innovative projects which stimulate children and young people's personal development and contribute to their educational attainment.
